Winter Driving

Winter is upon us. Winter storms, bad weather and sloppy road conditions are a factor in nearly half a million crashes and more than 2,000 road deaths every winter, according to research by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety.

How to Avoid a Crash

If visibility is severely limited due to a whiteout, pull off the road to a safe place and do not drive until conditions improve. Avoid pulling off onto the shoulder unless it is an absolute emergency. Limited visibility means other vehicles can’t see yours on the shoulder.

Car Seats

In colder weather, parents typically dress their children in winter coats. However, it’s important to be aware that heavy coats can interfere with the proper harness fit on the car seat.

When in their car seat, make sure your child is wearing thin, warm layers and place a blanket or coat around your child after their harness is snug and secure.
